The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) is the UK’s leading regeneration organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life in former mining communities.
Since 1999 CRT has invested over £260m in projects that make a positive difference to the lives of people in these communities across Britain, delivering services that help people gain new skills, achieve qualifications, find work, set up and grow new businesses and become more active in their communities. CRT’s activities have impacted positively on thousands of people over the years, but challenges still remain and the organisation is committed to responding to them.
To overcome these challenges CRT identified that they needed to look for a system which would help them maximise their existing resources, deliver their services efficiently and ensure that grant funded projects are delivering sustainable socio-economic benefits to former coalfields communities.

CRT were already users of Sage 200 Financials but given business process changes and the passage of time, they were no longer aware of the full breadth of the Sage 200 Suites. As part of its normal business review process Wharncliffe identified that CRT already “owned” a Sage 200 and Sage CRM licence which meant that despite CRT having looked at several alternative CRM solutions as well as “off the shelf” packages for charitable organisations, the fundamentals of their final solution were already in place. An initial CRM demonstration was quickly followed up with a full Sage 200 and Sage CRM proof of concept demonstration to Andy Lock and his CRT colleagues from Barnsley based Sage Strategic Partner, Wharncliffe Business Systems Ltd.
Now, CRT is looking forward to maximising the functionality provided by Sage 200 and Sage CRM across former coalfields communities in England, Scotland and Wales. As a web based CRM solution, CRT users will be able to market their services to targeted organisations, respond to enquiries and deliver their services. From awareness to application to approval, Sage 200 and Sage CRM’s inbuilt workflow solutions are set to streamline all CRT’s processes; delivering benefits to the former coalfields communities and thereby helping the organisation to secure future government funding.
