Established in 1979, Walkers Transport has evolved to become a leading UK transport and 3PL specialist providing essential logistics, stock management, pick, pack, collect and pallet delivery services for hundreds of fast-moving clients. And from their Leeds HQ, Walkers also operates the UK’s Northern Hub Palletways providing an express gateway in to and out of the north of England for ambient, non-hazardous pallet distribution.

Having already successfully implemented Sage 200 Financials, Matthew Kilner (Management Accountant) and the Walkers Transport finance team started to consider how best to use IT and in particular Sage CRM to help streamline and automate other areas of their business to deliver business growth and outstanding customer services.

Consequently, Wharncliffe consultants Martyn Price and Daniel Laws demonstrated how Walkers Transport could benefit from Sage 200 and Sage CRM functionality.

In the haulage industry, ‘Goods in Transit Insurance’ is a pre-requisite so, for the few claims for lost, stolen or damaged items, Walkers Transport set about working with Wharncliffe to develop a suitable workflow so that all communications at all stages of a claim are recorded.

Matthew explains. ‘The immediate success of this initial Sage 200 and Sage CRM project convinced me and my colleagues that we should extend Sage 200 and Sage CRM, so Credit Control was the next logical step. With hundreds of customers and thousands of deliveries and invoices every month, we realised that we needed to automate our processing so that we could use Sage CRM to chase payments and record communications in a timely and orderly manner.’

At Walkers Transport, Sage 200 and Sage CRM is now also used by the sales, marketing and account management teams to help successfully drive business expansion by recording opportunities and related communications including visits, emails and quotations at existing and prospective clients.

Daniel Laws, Sage 200 and Sage CRM consultant at Wharncliffe worked with Matthew on setting up Walkers Transport workflows on all three Sage 200 and Sage CRM phases and rolling out additional user licences as required.
